Terrence Malick’s Song to Song has been in the works for years, and we’re slowly closing in on its release date. The film will premiere at SXSW on Friday, March 10 and hits theaters in New York and Los Angeles on St. Patrick’s Day.
The movie is all about the Austin music scene, and it was even filmed during several festivals around the Texas capital, including Fun Fun Fun Fest, Austin City Limits, and SXSW. You’ll see it all in the trailer below.
You may have noticed a musician or two alongside the already all-star cast of Natalie Portman, Rooney Mara, Ryan Gosling, and Michael Fassbender. Featured in the trailer are Iggy Pop and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Based on the movie’s credits, it looks like we can expect to see a number of musicians throughout the movie. Specifically, Rooney Mara’s band is played by The Black Lips, while Tegan and Sara, Lykke Li, and Florence Welch, of Florence + The Machine, will also make appearances.
Neon Indian’s Alan Palomo, Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Lydon, Patti Smith, and Iggy Pop will each play themselves. Rumor has it (according to Pitchfork, at least) Arcade Fire, Iron & Wine, and Fleet Foxes didn’t make the cut, despite shooting scenes for the film.
All of these musicians, as well as, oh, I don’t know, the entire premise of the movie, gives us a pretty good hunch that we can expect a killer soundtrack to accompany the film. Even the song in the trailer, Del Shannon’s “Runaway,” has got me dancin’.
Who’s psyched for Song to Song?
