Rami Malek Had to Awkwardly Watch His Freddie Mercury Audition Tape with Queen

July 6, 2017

The ongoing Freddie Mercury biopic has been a film in the works for many years now. After losing directors and potential leads to play the Queen frontman, "Mr. Robot" actor Rami Malek has been confirmed as the official star of the film.

But the road to being Freddie was not sunshine and rainbows. While appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Malek confessed that while running late to meet the members of queen in a recording studio on Abbey Road, he stopped to look at a signed photograph of Freddie Mercury and felt like it was telling him, "Don't do this."

Now to fit the role of Freddie, Malek certainly needed to possess the vocal capacity that he was known for. Upon meeting Brian May and Roger Taylor, he realized that they hadn't listened to his singing audition yet and had to nervously watch them listen to him sing as Freddie Mercury for the first time! "No pressure!" said Malek.
