Pink Floyd Opera Coming Stateside in 2018

This past Saturday (March 11), Another Brick in the Wall—The Opera premiered at Montreal’s Opéra de Montréal. The aptly named opera—which is based on Pink Floyd’s 1979 album, The Wall—is now making its way stateside. Specifically, the production will debut at the Cincinnati Opera in July 2018.
Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters wrote pieces for the opera, which is fitting, considering he wrote a solid chunk of the original album.
However, Waters’ involvement doesn’t make this a rock production. In fact, according to Entertainment Weekly, it’s “a genuine opera, not a ‘rock opera.'” The artistic director for the Cincinnati Opera, Evans Mirageas, further explained, “There’s nary a drum set or electric guitar to be heard,” but promised, “It will sound breathtaking in the renovated Music Hall with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in the pit.”
In any case, if Waters had a say, we’re sure this is bound to be a well-done show.
And speaking of the Pink Floyd musician, he’s got his first solo album on the way. Teased last month, Is This the Life We Really Want is due out May 19.
